“I think most of us would like to see I-35 transformed into green space, with green infrastructure and a smaller footprint. I'm deeply concerned about TxDOT’s proposed widening of I-35 and subsequent displacement of an estimated 150 homes and businesses. Widening highways only encourages more traffic, resulting in more pollution. We need to shrink the footprint of this Project to mitigate its environmental and community impacts. I think a greener, more sustainable I-35 area can only be realized by the cap-and-stitch process currently being discussed by stakeholders. I support incorporating many of Rethink35 and Reconnect Austin’s goals into the final plan. City Council and members of the public need to continue to advocate for a better plan.

“While I chaired the community scoping working group on this project, I established a relationship with the TxDOT staff. I will build on that relationship to find solutions for the impacts on affordability, displacement, and the environment.”
